Mrs. Tichenor was such a very dear and kind person. I will never forget the kindness she showed my mother and me. When I was in high school with her daughter Linda, I had the honor of being selected prom queen. I needed to have a special dress for the dance, but our family finances then were little and none. My mom and I looked in all the stores on main street and could not find anything suitable or affordable; and the personnel in those stores treated us as if we were not really their type of clientele. We walked into the Carriage Shop just to see the dresses, not really thinking we could ever buy anything there. Mrs. Tichenor came up and greeted us and made my mom feel so welcome and comfortable in what my mother considered that "fancy store." She said she had the perfect dress for me, brought it out, and I fell in love with it immediately. While she and I were in the dressing room, I told her about our financial situation, and even though I loved the gown, we just couldn't buy it. She said, "Well, let me see what I can do." When she came back, somehow the price of the dress was lower and she said we could make small payments weekly so I could have the gown in time for the prom. She made me so happy, but more importantly, she made my mom feel proud. Mom told everyone that she got my gown at the Carriage Shop and they should go there and see Mrs. Tichenor. I'm sure we were not the only ones who experienced her kindness first hand. I send all my love and sympathy to Linda and Danny and to the whole Tichenor family. She was an exceptional soul and will be greatly missed.
