Obituary of Daniel James Logan

Daniel James Logan, Jr., 66, of Mesa, AZ, as well as Barrackville, WV, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at his residence in Arizona. He was born April 12, 1950, in Scranton, PA, a son of the late Daniel James and Jane M. Dunleavy Logan. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Linda Martin Logan. Dan was a graduate of Bayley Ellard High School in Madison, NJ, as well as Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 through 1971 and then with the U.S. Army from 1971 through 2003. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer 5 serving as Assistant Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff, Army. He continued his career as a civilian and retired in 2013 as the Assistant Chief of Staff to the Secretary, Department of Veteran Affairs. With his occupation, Dan traveled extensively throughout the country and the world, having served in many countries over the years. Dan was a Distinguished Medal recipient and a member of the U.S. Army Adjutant General’s Corps Hall of Fame. Upon retirement he enjoyed golf, cooking and spending time with his granddaughters. Dan attended Bethesda Baptist Church in Barrackville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step-children, Eric James Straight of Las Vegas, NV, and Shannon and her husband Timothy Brimmer of Gilbert, AZ; Grandchildren; Brittany R. and Cassidy L. Brimmer; his brothers: Robert and his wife Kathy Logan of Milton, WI, Neil and his wife Deborah Logan of Simpsonville, SC, and William and his wife Gayle Logan of East Lake, OH; a sister, MaryEllen and her husband Paul Togno of Netcong, NJ; his father-in-law, Richard Martin of Barrackville; brother-in-law, Ronald and his wife Veronica Martin of Gilbert, AZ; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Mary Logan. Friends and family may visit at the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 2PM until 8PM. Mr. Logan will lie in state at the Bethesda Baptist Church in Barrackville on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the church on Friday at 11AM with Reverend David Cyphers officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, with full military burial rites performed by the U.S. Army.
