Obituary of James Roy Moore

James Roy Moore “Turtle", Bridgeport, WV, passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family on Friday, February 14, 2020 at WVU-J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV. Born on July 26, 1950, in Baltimore, MD, Jim was predeceased by his parents, Karl Wilson Moore and Rose Mary Leahy Moore, and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth G. “Jerry” Railey. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 48 years, Patricia Railey Moore. They have two wonderful sons: Matthew James Moore of Ft. Mill, SC (Jessica Langsford Moore, and daughter, Lucia James) and Kent Nicholas Moore (Lauren Snell Moore, and children: Harper Gracelynn, Hudson Jerome, and Hadlynn Brielle of Bridgeport, WV.) he is survived by his father-in-law, Charles G. Railey. Jim is also survived by his brother, Bruce Wilson Moore (Patricia and daughter, Kristin Moore Castillo, MD) of Morgantown, WV and his sister, Patricia Moore Penters (husband Scott, Southport, NC, daughter, Bryanne Zihmer, and son, R.Scott Penters). Jim was a 1968 graduate of Bridgeport High School. During his lifetime, he maintained close friendships with and had breakfast regularly with high school friends, Larry Steele, Rick Hathaway, and Mark Ribas. He cherished his Ford Mustang Shelby. He attended the WV State Police Academy where he graduated top of his class and Fairmont State College. He served in the United States Army Reserves. His 36-year career was spent with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, where he was a Lieutenant and enjoyed working closely with good friends, Judges J. Lewis Marks, Jr. and Thomas Bedell. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Jim was the best Poppy in the world. His specialties included rocking little ones to lullabies played by Alexa, reading stories, playing Sorry, cards, and dinosaur games, and hosting tea parties. Poppy will be lovingly missed by his beautiful grandchildren. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the excellent and loving care provided by J.W. Ruby Hospital Intensive Care Unit and especially the kindness shown by Dr. Darcy Autry. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in James’ name, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A Gathering will be held at the Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV on Monday, February 17, 2020 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Catholic Funeral Rites will be celebrated in the funeral home at 4:00 PM with Deacon John Yaquinta presiding. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
