Today, 10/24/20, I just learned of Joe's passing. I remember everyone of the family as an important
part of my life. I remember well the day I met Joe when he returned from the coast guard and he was
discussing with Eddie Martin what his future might look like.
I miss everyone of the family and am sad to learn of Joes passing.

My sincere sympathy to the entire Gruber family on the passing of your brother Joe. I remember when he helped your Dad and I remember the wonderful Gruber family that lived near me on North 21st Street.
Mary Pat, who would have believed just seeing you and Judy at Mrs. Burns funeral that you would be experiencing your own sorrow. Remember when someone you love becomes a memory those memories become a treasure.

Joe and I spent many days working together at Oglebay's Festival of Lights. He loved working with people. He was someone I could trust even during some of his hard times. I will miss him. Condolences to family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear that Joe passed. So close to my Mom's passing. My prayers and deepest sympathy to the entire Gruber family.
And will always remember how close our familes were. Many celebrations across the street from one another. I don't think we missed any Christmas get together when we were young. Godspeed Joe.

I knew Joe from West Liberty State College. Joe was a gentle soul. He was well liked and a good friend. One of the things I remember most about him was his example of Christian forgiveness he showed after he had been beaten during a break-in and robbery of the photography studio in East Wheeling in the early 1980s. As I spoke with him in Wheeling hospital, he told me he had already forgiven his assailants – and I believe he meant every word, as he never spoke ill of those two men. He never even reported the incident that I know of. His forgiveness is how we should be, but we often fall far short of his example. I lost track of him after I married and moved away, but my wife and I have a great remembrance of him – he gave us a wonderful wedding present in the form of our wedding photos, and when we glance at them, we are reminded of his talent and kind spirit.
