Obituary of Glenn Howard Phillips
Glenn Howard Phillips, 95, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Hastings, WV on April 10, 1924, a son of the late Ora Lee Phillips and Carrie Mae LeMasters Phillips. Glenn was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Laura Loreta Reynolds Phillips.
Glenn is survived by his daughters, Carol Jean Boyers of Fairmont and Rebecca Jane Godfrey and her husband Michael of Mohrsville, PA; grandchildren, Laura (John) Chapman, Janie (Jason) Hawkins, Patricia (Jayson) Higgins, Eric (Nicole) Godfrey, and Samantha (Jeremy) Hurwitz; great-grandchildren, Gary Chapman, Joshua Hawkins, Delaney Higgins, Ashlee Schneider, Sidney Godfrey, Gavin Godfrey, Owen Godfrey, Layla Hurwitz, and Benjamin Hurwitz; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his brother, Bearl L. Phillips; two sisters, Bertha L. Herringdine and Edith M. Wright; and a son-in-law, John Boyers.
Glenn was a member of the “Old Breed” 1st Marine Division, 7th Regiment during World War II, serving in Peleliu, Guadalcanal, New Guinea, and Archipelago (Cape Gloucester). During his service, Glenn earned a Purple Heart, four Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and Asiatic-Pacific Medal. Mr. Phillips was a member of the VFW Post 629, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Marine Corps League, where he served on the Flag Corps. Glenn enjoyed being with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He truly loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of Life United Methodist Church where he was active in the United Methodist Men. Glenn worked for Hope and Dominion Hope for his entire career.
The family would like to thank the staff of WV Caring Hospice, the VA Hospital, and the many private caregivers for their kindness and compassionate care over the years.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Monday, December 16, 2019, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at 11 a.m. A committal service will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont where full military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veteran’s Counsel.
