Obituary of June E. Conaway
June E. Conaway, 84, of Fairmont, West Virginia died Saturday, January 5, 2019 in the Fairmont Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 30, 1934 in Fairmont the daughter of the late Alva G. Spiker & Margaret Elizabeth Morgan Spiker. She was preceded in death by her husband Harrison Conaway Jr.
She is survived by a son and daughter in law Courtney & Jenny Harney of Fairmont, four grandchildren Brittany Moore & her husband Matt Moore, Joann Harney, C. Morgan Harney Jr. and Margaret Elizabeth Harney, three great grandchildren Trenton Moore, Lochlan Moore & Tynlee Moore and a sister in law June Spiker of Fairmont.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her brother, Paul G. Spiker.
Mrs. Conaway worked over 30 years as a secretary for Industrial Resources and was employed for over 10 years for the W.V. Division of Natural Resources as their Environmental Coordinator. She was a longtime member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Fairmont and was the vice president of the Fundraising Committee for the Christ Episcopal Women. June was a past member of the W. V. State Board of Directors for the Pearl Buck Foundation. She served on the Board of Directors for the Marion County Humane Society and several environmental groups. June also served on the Fairmont Community Development Partnership.
June is a Past President of the Woman’s Club of Fairmont having held many offices in the Junior Department, including North Central District Chairman and two State Chairmanships. She served as State President of the W.V. Federation of Woman’s Clubs from 1992-1994. June served 10 years on her District Executive Board and is a Past President of the North –Central District. She served on the State Council as International Hostess and International Policy Division Chairman and 14 years on the State Board as District President. While the International Chairman, She traveled to the Middle East where she was a guest of an International Federation member. June was a member of the GFWC Past Presidents Club and the GFWC Hollandette Club. She was named Outstanding Young Women of America and was awarded the lifetime membership in the W.V. Federation of Woman’s Clubs.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554 on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with The Jordan Trumble, Interim Rector officiating.
