Obituary of Robert Lee Goodwin

Robert Lee Goodwin, 86, of Whitehall, was called home to be with the Lord on November, 9, 2018.  He was born August 25, 1932, an only child of the late Edith and Brooks Goodwin of Levels Community.  He was born and raised in Levels and attended the Level’s United Methodist Church with his mother every Sunday.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Arlene “Rusty” Goodwin.  They were married on December 14, 1963 in Oakland, MD.  He is also survived by his daughters, Robin Wright of Whitehall, Karen Williams and her husband Greg of Levels Community, and Donna Goodwin Barr and her husband Don of New Philadelphia, OH, his one and only son, Robert “Scott” Goodwin and his wife Becky of Fremont, OH.

Robert was a 1950 graduate of East Fairmont High School.  He retired on October 2, 1997 from Superior Industrial Laundry as a Vice President.  He worked within the laundry industry for over 37 years.  Robert was a Veteran with the United States Army having served from 1952 through 1954.  He was deployed to Germany during the Korean War and served as a Corporal in the 28th infantry division.  Robert was a 32nd degree active member of the Acacia Lodge #157 A.F.&A.M. and routinely participated in Fairmont Lodge #9 A.F.&A.M.

He lived in Whitehall for 50 years and never met a stranger.  He enjoyed driving his father’s 1955 hardtop Cadillac and won numerous awards with his antique car club friends.  Robert enjoyed his winter home in Florida as a snow bird with many of his friends from West Virginia that joined him for the winter months.  His favorite past time was working on special projects with his best friend, Bob Rowley.  He enjoyed many years of friendship with Delores and Ivan Austin, lifelong friends and ballroom dancing partners who were a special part of the family for many years.  His Masonic brother, George Davis was like a son to him and he loved him as such.

Robert was a wonderful papaw, “Paw” to his grandchildren, Cienna Wright, Mandi Riddle, Jon Gorby, Sondra Yoder, Brianna Goodwin and Cole Goodwin.  He also had five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren whom he greatly loved.

In addition to his parents, Robert was also preceded by his beloved family dog of 13 years, “Poochie” (Bubba) who he loved and spoiled with all of his heart.

The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice, Dr. Michael O’Keefe, Dr Patrick Ma, Dr. Andrez Jarowski, Dr. Mary Mikowski, his neighbors, and friends of the family for the care and love they provided him.
