Dear Rob and Barbara,
There is not a thing I can say about your mom that you don't already know. I'd see her walking toward the cemetery often, and would stop to say "Hi". She never took me up on an offer to ride. I remember her diligent work with scouts, and her smile. People know what is in your heart by the smile on your face. No question, your mom's heart belonged to God. Prayers for all of you as remember special times with her. Love in Christ, Debbie

Annabel Luebbe. The epitome of kindness. A class act. A lady like we unfortunately don’t see many of today. I am honored and blessed to have known her. Heaven most definitely has gained and “angel” of angels. Prayers for her family, and all of us who knew her, respected her, and will miss her.

My mom was her classmate and friend. Two of my children rented her small home in the back. First Heather and then Aaron after she moved. I saw her so many many times visiting them and of course seeing Annabelle all over town. Everyone in town knew her and loved her. She was a crown jewel in our town and can never be replaced. God speed sweet lady. You will be missed!

I remember your mom every Sunday morning at the 830 service. She and my mom had assigned seats I think. She always walked by our house and would have a smile and kind words. She was the most pleasant lady I ever have known. She was an inspiration to many. Thoughts and prayers are with you Barbie and Robbie and family.

To the family,
I have sent many cards to your mom over past 4years. I pray they put a smile on her face. I always saw her walking around and picking up trash. Always with a smile on. She was so pleasant. She added so much to our church.
You must remember she’s at home now with The Lord!!!! Now her smile will be permanently displayed to all. Jesus is with you also, now more than ever. He will comfort you.
With heartfelt prayers and my deepest sympathy,
Debi Douglass

Miss Annabel, what a gracious soul. Some of my favorite times in my young marriage was renting the house behind her’s from her.
Annabel had graduated from high school with my grandmother. Having just lost her, Annabel instantly became my surrogate. Oh, the funny stories I have. After seeing the “lady on the bike” for my entire childhood, I was now part of her legendary world.
Annabel was always seen with a bun in her hair. It was her signature. In her mid-thirties, it was drawn up, never to publicly come down. With our windows facing, one evening I looked up to see what appeared to be Rubunzel standing in Annabel’s kitchen. At first, I worried about some intruder. But, it was Annabel. Having just washed her hair, she was standing on a step stool. Tall, with all that hair. So very, very long. It was like a guarded secret. People would have been amazed.
Annabel had her ways, and she could not be negotiated with. Many times, she pulled out of her driveway as I stood with tears in my eyes. She was making her annual driving pilgrimage to Florida to see her daughter - alone. I was a nervous wreck. She was such a tiny thing, then in her early 80s. She wouldn’t take my cell phone with her, she scoffed at the idea of “checking in” roadside along her route. Instead, she showed me her glove compartment CB radio. Clearly, she would not need me with this modern tool.
Air conditioning was never turned on, unless company was coming. Medication was never taken. All the lady friends assembled at her home each holiday. Ham loaves would be made. No one would spend the day alone.
I made the mistake of joining her on one of her evening strolls once. Expecting a nice, leiasurely walk around the block, 4 and 1/2 miles later, I was panting and struggling to keep up. She returned from her walks carrying all the litter she collected daily. Once it was hub caps. Once it was a box of tools.
She loved her town. She knew the complete history. I intently listened to each word. Her records are impeccable. A treasure-trove of Bridgeport and BHS history (and her frozen Pecan Sandies) were carefully maintained in her basement.
She loved me. I know that. I loved her. She knew that too. One of the hardest days was packing up to move into our new home. I did not want to leave her, though I was just two miles away. My brother eventually took my place in her rental house. But, it never was the same. Christmas visits, phone calls, stopping my car when she was out on her walks, could not replace the time we shared. There was nothing like an evening talk on Annabel Luebbe’s back porch.
The community has lost one of its founding mothers. And, I have lost a dear friend.

To all the family and friends of Annabel, I didn't actually know her but we used to buy Milk from her Mom. We lived at Maple Lake and except when the cows got into the onions in the Spring we sure enjoyed her milk. There was always so much cream on the top that we could save it from a few quarts and whip it for whipped cream..Blessing and prayers for all..
