Obituary of Jean Wilson Bane

Jean Wilson Bane, age 102, of Barrackville passed away peacefully on Sunday December 17, 2023, with her loving daughter by her side. Jean was born February 19, 1921 in Barrackville, the daughter of the late Ruth Ice Wilson Satterfield and Charles Harold Wilson. She is survived by two daughters, Becky (Steve) Johnson of Valrico, Fl, and Bobbi (Butch) Mohrman of Barrackville, and a daughter-in-law, Jeanie Bane of Barrackville, five grandchildren Ed (Michelle) Bane of Warrenton, VA, Brad (Danielle) Bane of Mount Pleasant, SC, Kelli (Jason) Neely of Colorado Springs, CO, Erik (Kate) Johnson of Atlanta, GA, and Erin Bane Field of Houston, TX. Eight great-grandchildren Austin and Tyler Bane, Luke and Lola Neely, Emma Bane, Henry and Charlie Field, Libby Johnson, and numerous friends who affectionately called her Granny Bane. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Harry Bane , son Spike Bane, and a brother, Herschel Wilson. She was a graduate of Barrackville High School class of 1939 and Fairmont State College. She was a beloved fifth grade teacher in her home school Barrackville Elementary/ Middle for twenty-seven years. Jean was an avid reader and read the local paper and kept up with state, national and international news every day. She was a former member of Mannington Friends of the Library. She was also a member of Red Hats, Life Long Learners, Barrackville and Marion County Retired School Personnel, Barrackville Alumni on the planning committee for all the Homecoming Jubilee Reunions, Barrackville United Methodist Quilters, the educational honorary Alpha Delta Kappa, and a lifelong and devoted member of the Barrackville Church of Christ. Jean enjoyed clogging, and she and Harry looked forward to camping, and traveling particularly with their trailer group through which they made lifelong friends. She watched Jeopardy every night. She was known for sending cards to friends and her church family. Most of all Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid WVU basketball and football fan and knew the names of the players, coaches, and what was happening in the sporting world. She had season tickets to the men’s WVU basketball games and attended her last basketball game in person at the age of 100. When she was not attending games in person, she followed them on television and radio continuing to listen to Tony Caridi’s broadcast through this fall. She was a wonderful cook and delighted family and friends as she generously shared her famous potato salad, pepperoni buns, vegetable soup, cinnamon rolls, and orange cookies to name a few. Among her many wonderful qualities, her generous spirit, gracious humor, positive outlook, and enduring kindness will be those her friends and family remember and treasure. Jean Bane loved her Barrackville community and school and had a special love for all students especially her fifth grade students. Box 150, Barrackville, WV 26559 memo on check Jean Bane Memorial which will be used to support fifth grade student needs or the counseling program at Barrackville School or to The Ice Cemetery Association INC, P. O. Box 502 , Barrackville, WV 26559. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends will be received on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 1p.m. until 7p.m. and on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 10a.m. until 11a.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, December 29, 2023 with Evangelist Steve Snider officiating.
