Obituary of Frederick Lane Poling

Frederick Lane Poling, 83, of Fairmont, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021 at WVU Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born August 22, 1937 in Grafton, WV a son of the late Howard Austin and Mabel L. Norris Poling. He is survived by his high school sweet heart of 62 wonderful years, Connie Stemple Poling. Fred was a member of the H&H Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a former choir member. He attended Grafton High School for three years and then graduated from Ridgeville High School in Ridgeville, Indiana in 1956. Fred was a veteran with the United States Air Force and served in Okinawa, Japan from 1956 through 1960. Fred was the owner and operator of Fairmont Tire Center in Fairmont. He was a former manager for B.F. Goodrich in both Fairmont and Charleston, WV. He was also a former manager for Avis Car Rental in Charleston WV, Huntington WV, and Naples and Fort Myers, FL. He was a member of Acacia Lodge #157 A.F.&A.M., a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason of Wheeling, WV, Osiris Shrine Center, Upper Mon Valley Shrine Club where he served as Past President in 1991, Taylor County Shrine Club, Member of Desert Caravan Parade Unit. He was a member of the N.R.A. Fred enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He loved his Connie, children, grandchildren, and his Yorkie, Carabella most. He was dearly loved and will be missed greatly. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children, Deanna Sue and her husband Roger Kritzer of Fairmont, Rhonda Michele and her husband J.E. White of Clendenin, WV, Howard Frederick and his wife Melonie Poling of Mannington, Benjamin Lane and his wife Jennifer Poling of Fairmont, and Thomas Chad and his wife Becky Poling of Hurricane, WV; his twelve grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Jenny Kritzer, Austin and his wife Nicole Kritzer, James White, Alexandra White, Hunter White, Rhett White, Mattilyn Poling, Maggie Poling, Mitchel Poling, Addison Poling, Connor Poling, and Kinley Poling, his three great grandchildren, Davin, Grady, and Kai his “Buckaroo”, as well as his sister-in-law, Martha Poling of Grafton, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Howard Poling. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV, 26554. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it is required that masks be worn and social distancing be maintained for all arrangements. In accordance with Mr. Poling’s wishes, cremation services will take place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11 AM at the H&H Chapel United Methodist Church, 141 Mount Harmony Road, Fairmont, WV 26554 with Pastor Randy Vincent officiating. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV with full military honors. The Acacia Lodge #157 A.F.&A.M will conduct ritualistic services following the graveside committal.
