Obituary of Russell George Neptune

Russell George Neptune passed away suddenly on December 20, 2020 at the age of 69. Son of George and Julia (Colorusso) Neptune, Russell was born and raised in Fairmont, WV. He attended Fairmont state College and was a member of Tau Beta Iota, St. Peter’s High School where he was a member of the state champion basketball team, and Fairmont Senior high school where he played basketball and went on to teach as an art teacher for the majority of his 38 year career with the Marion County Board of Education. Those around him were blessed to witness his many talents, including free throws on the basketball court and artisan stained glass windows. He was an avid runner and loved to cook for family and friends. His biggest pride and favorite activity was spending time with his granddaughters. What made Russell so special to those who knew him, was his genuine love for people and willingness to do anything for anyone at a moments notice. Lovingly referred to as “Uncle Russ” by family, friends, and students alike, he treated everyone like family and will be immensely missed by those who had the pleasure of having him in their lives. Russell is survived by his wife of 46 years, Paula (Maruka) Neptune of Fairmont, sons Christopher Ryan and Jonross Neptune (wife Lisa), Granddaughters Madeline Violet and Scarlett Ann, sister Georgeanne Neptune, sister-in-laws Susan, Renee, Karen, Lynn, Joyce, and Carol, and nieces and nephews whom he loved with all of his heart. Russell is joining beloved family members whom will never be forgotten including niece Megan Clare Stephenson, nephew Eric Michael Dalton, Father and Mother George and Julia (Colorusso) Neptune, Father and Mother-in-law Ross and Dolores (Rote) Maruka. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Russ's memory to the Maruka Family Scholarship in memory of Ross & Dolores Maruka and Megan Stephenson, Fairmont Senior High School Foundation Scholarship, c/o FSHS Foundation PO Box 91, Fairmont, WV 26555.
