Paula and family,
Big Russ was always one of our favorite people. He was an inspiration to many and definitely will be sadly missed. He was a quiet leader and led by example. Our friend was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather and God father. He was also wonderful chef and enjoyed cooking for others. Most of all he was an inspiring teacher. His love of antiques and ability to transform something old into something new was special. He would be so excited about his projects that he made you excited. I have many great memories that I cherish such as our carpooling to Mannington HS in 1978 and then NMHS, his exciting rendition of barely escaping a 5000 pound oak tree during a mini-tornado in the summer of 2019, and his infamous foul shooting contest with another Polar Bear legend (Babe Stingo) at FSHS where they both shot 100 shots and Big Russ won 95-93, We extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We feel your loss and pray that God will comfort you and provide His peace that passes all understanding. We love you all and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Neptune, it was in your class that I truly learned to appreciate my love of fine art, which has guided me throughout both my career and my life. I owe you a world of gratitude. You are a both a gentleman and a scholar sir, and if you meet William Blake on the other side, please tell him I said hi.

Mr. Neptune was a wonderful teacher. I was so fortunate to take his class during my senior year at FSHS. Another tribute here mentioned his still life in classes and they were indeed so creative! He was one of a kind. Always wanted students to be creative and learn.

Paula and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Russell's passing. I lived across the street from Russell when we were children and we spent a lot of time playing, riding bikes and building tree houses. I look back on that time with fond memory. Russell was a good man and the world now has one less person in it that made a difference. Our condolences.

I was a student of Mr. Neptune at FSHS, taking art classes all 4 years. My senior year, he let me take Art IV during his planning period, because it was only taught one period and conflicted with Jazz Band. He helped me prepare a portfolio that earned me a presidential scholarship at WVU. He's the one that suggested I look into graphic design as a career, which is what I majored in. I owe much to Russell Neptune. I'll never forget his kindness, his enthusiasm, and the variety of art making he introduced me to. The still lifes he created in his studio were spectacular.

I will always remember first meeting Russ when I was a beginning teacher at Thoburn Elementary. Russ was the traveling Art teacher for Marion County. He taught a lesson on making tie dye t-shirts which I will never forget. The kids loved it whenever Mr. Neptune was coming for art. He had a passion for art and a love of kids which truly made him a great teacher. I will never forget my friend Russ. My heartfelt condolences to Paula and family.

Russ and I were great friends for 63 years; since 1st Grade at Fleming School. I count myself very lucky that we stayed in touch and had so many great times together all these years. He was loyal, giving, demanding of perfection and a kind and generous soul. If you knew Russ and spent time with him, you now have many fond memories. As a fellow Art Teacher, I can tell you that Russell was a True Master. He demanded and got fabulous work from his students and they Learned so much along the way. He was the BEST family man and that was the center of his life. May the great memories and valuable Lessons and Love of my Pal Russ Neptune continue to guide you Paula, Chris and Jonross & family (and your entire extended family).
