Obituary of Sue Ellen Connell Hess

Sue Ellen Connell Hess, 79, of Fairmont passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, December 7, 2020, at the Genesis Madison Center in Morgantown. She was born in Fairmont on March 2, 1941 a daughter of the late Charles Mulford Connell and Gretchen Ellen Neese Connell. Sue is survived by her daughters, Amy Hess and her spouse Shannon Aiken of Asheville, NC and Jill Hess and her partner Roger Glass of Taylor County; a grandchild, Adam Aiken of Asheville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Kay Charlton and Judy Shreve; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Clare Hess and sister, Jeanne Brucciani. Sue was a 1958 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and a 1960 graduate of the nursing program at Fairmont General Hospital. She worked over 40 years as a registered nurse at Fairmont General and at the Fairmont Clinic. During her career as a nurse, Sue cared for many people in North Central West Virginia, and she was a first responder at the Farmington #9 mine disaster. Sue was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont. She was an avid gardener and she loved her flowers, plants, and birdwatching. The family would like to thank the many neighbors, friends, and caregivers that provided support over the years. The family has entrusted arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, R.C.
