Obituary of James "Jim" Lee Smock

James “Jim” Lee Smock, 86, of Fairmont passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020, at home. He was born January 5, 1934 in Marion County son of the late John Smock and Helen Merrifield Smock as well as his step-father, C. L. Dils. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley of 66 years. Jim retired from the post office and served in the Korean War in 1957. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 629 in Fairmont. Jim was a wonderful father not only to his three children but also a father to all his grandkids. Jim loved to play the slot machine but wasn’t very good at them. Jim is survived by his son, James Jeffrey “JJ” Smock and his girlfriend Tammy; two daughters, Sharlene Osburn and her husband Gary and Brenda Vandergrift and her husband Randy “Noodle” His grandchildren, Aaron Potoczy and his wife Nikki, Justin Potoczy and his wife Jen, Nino Cowger and her husband Scott, and Kameryn Smock; and great-grandchildren, Sadie Cowger, Austin Cowger, Brayden Cowger, Austin Potoczy and his wife Tayler and their children. In addition, her was preceded in death by a grandson, Sonny Vandergrift. In accordance with Jim’s wishes, his body will be cremated and laid to rest with his wife Shirley at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
