Obituary of Alice Jane Wellman Barnes

Alice Jane Wellman Barnes, 96, of Bellview passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at St. Barbara’s Nursing Home in Monongah. She was born in Moundsville, daughter of the late Hugh Barger Wellman and Anna Ruth McCombs Wellman. Alice is survived by her children, Karen Ann Barnes Hike of Tucker, GA, Martha Alice Barnes Coelho and her husband Don of Farmington, Betsy Jenkins Shepherd and her husband Rick of Fairmont, and Robin Barnes King and her husband Adlai of Waldorf, MD; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Hike, Krista Wright, Ashley Henderson and her husband Donnie, Adlai King Jr, Christopher King, and Adrienne King; six great-grandchildren, Seven Henderson, Steele Henderson, Cameron White, Isaiah King, Isaac Evans, and Aysin King. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Eugene Jenkins and Mancer Swiger Barnes; as well as her beloved cat, Scamper. Alice was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and Fairmont State College. She worked as an operating room nurse at Fairmont General Hospital for many years. Alice was a member of Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, a volunteer at the Soup Opera, a member of the Fairmont Elks #294, and a member of the Markoda Dance Club. She enjoyed golfing, the beach, collecting shells, cooking, traveling, and playing bridge. The family has entrusted arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554.
