Obituary of Evelyn Lavon Stuart

Evelyn Lavon Stuart, 91, passed away from this life on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Mon Health Medical Center. She was born June 11, 1929, in Harrisville, the daughter of Freeman and Ethel Collins. On April 5, 1953 she married the love of her life, Arthur Edward Stuart, who preceded her in death on September 11, 2013. Over 60 years together they raised five children, Kenneth Neil Stuart (Kathy) of Huntersville, NC, Jo Lynn Mitchell (Brad) of Franklin, Robert Freeman Stuart (Tina) of Fairmont, Susan Kay Martin (Brian) of Fairmont, and Arthur Edward Stuart II (Connie) of Waverly, VA. Evelyn was a dedicated nurse, wife, and mother. She graduated from Monongalia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 and retired from Fairmont General Hospital in December of 1993, ending her career as the Head Nurse of the Orthopedic Department. Evelyn was an elder and active member of First United Presbyterian Church of Fairmont. She was a Moderator of the Presbyterian Women in Fairmont and a Co-enabler of Quadrant Z on the state level. She was honored with the Presbyterian Women’s Life Membership. In addition to her children Evelyn is survived by a sister, Carol Sue Jones (Raymond) of Parkersburg. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, Whitney Stuart Rodgers (Zack), Lauren Stuart, Ross Stuart, Sarah Mitchell, Alisha Mitchell Linehan (Blake), Kristen Mitchell Barnett (Steven), Rachel Mitchell, Lindsay Stuart Wiles (Stephen), Landon Stuart (Cassidy), Laryn (Roonie) Stuart Metzler (Rob), Logan Martin (Michaela), Tyler Martin (Samantha), Jordan Martin (Gina), Adam Stuart (Heather), Andrew Stuart, Melissa Stuart Hockaday (Justin) and 13 great-grandchildren; McKenna and Lachlan Wiles, Mason and Easton Stuart, Gracyn Metzler, Krue and Nora Ann Martin, Griffin, Stone, and Barrett Martin, Jaxon, Sophia, Emily Hockaday, and Colton Berry. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her Aunt Annie. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Jeanette Collins, Dorothy Collins Stansberry, and Anita Jo Collins Mazzocco. Family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 4 to 8pm on Thursday, October 8th. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10am Friday, October 9th in the First United Presbyterian Church, 301 Jackson St., Fairmont with Reverend Evan Walker of First United Presbyterian and Evangelist Brent Gallagher of Oakwood Road Church of Christ officiating. A private committal will take place after the service.
