Obituary of William "Gregory" Vanscoy

William “Gregory” Vanscoy, 40, of Pleasant Valley departed this life Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born January 29, 1980 in Wheeling, son of Willard and Charlotte Vanscoy. Greg served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea and later served in the National Guard. He graduated from East Fairmont High School. His number one interest was wrestling. Greg joined the West Fairmont Jr. Wrestling Club in second grade. Later he wrestled for East Fairmont Jr. High and East Fairmont High Schools. He was very skilled at his sports and won many tournament championships through the years. His parents and siblings were always there to support him. He always considered his dad his #1 coach. Greg also was talented as an artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking. Greg worked in construction and most recently with concrete. He was a member of the Concrete Workers Union. Greg is survived by his parents, Willard and Charlotte Vanscoy of Pleasant Valley; the pride and joy of his life and his #1 fan, son, Andrew “Mase” Vanscoy of Pleasant Valley; sister, Jennifer and brother-in-law, Jason Lister of Rivesville; brother, Michael Vanscoy of Pleasant Valley; nephews, Ozzy, Reed, and Grant Lister all of Rivesville; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Greg’s generosity, wit, and contagious smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Now he rests in peace. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Greg’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org/donate. Due to health and safety concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, the family has requested a private viewing limited to family and close friends. A committal service will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery, 42 Veterans Memorial Lane, Grafton, WV 26354, on Monday, September 14, 2020, at 12 Noon with Reverend Jim Norton officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veteran's Counsel. The family has entrusted Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, with the arrangements.
