Obituary of Robert Glenn Janes Jr.
Robert Glenn Janes Jr. died Friday, January 17, 2020, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Robbie was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on March 25, 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert Janes and Maronee Fleming Janes Wroe.
Robbie was educated in Marion County Public Schools and graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1972. He graduated with a B.A. in English from Davis & Elkins College in 1978 and later earned a degree in Education from Coastal Carolina University. Rob was a true scholar who had a passion for teaching others. He spent 32 years teaching English, Speech and Drama at Marion High School, Georgetown High School, Waccamaw High School, Bennettsville High School and Carvers Bay High School. He started Thespian Societies at Georgetown High and Waccamaw High and also established and coached soccer programs at both of those schools.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Christine McLennan Janes, and sons, Robert Glenn Janes III (Trey) and McLennan Stewart Janes (Lenny) and his wife, Amanda Howard. He also is survived by 3500 students whom he considered his own children and siblings Pamela Janes Snyder, Judge David Robert Janes, Anne Elizabeth Janes, Thomas Fleming Janes and many nieces and nephews. He loved his West Virginia roots but also enjoyed the beaches and weather of the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Since he was a camper at Peterkin Conference Center for eight years and a Peterkin counselor for two years, Robbie has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to Peterkin Conference Center, 286 Clubhouse Road, Romney, West Virginia 26757.
