Obituary of Evelyn Muto Costello

Evelyn Muto Costello, 97, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 25, 2019, at her home. She was born May 26, 1922 in Fairmont, a daughter of the late James and Louise Muto. She was preceded in death by her husband, James N. Costello on June 7, 2002. Mrs. Costello was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Fairmont. She was a homemaker in her own home. Evelyn was a very competitive bowler, as well as softball and basketball player, in her day. She was an avid WVU Men’s Basketball fan, who was waiting for Coach Bob Huggins to win a National Championship. She enjoyed keeping score of the backyard basketball games. She was especially proud to have been invited to tryout for the U.S. Olympic Womens’ basketball team. Evelyn was survived by her two children, her daughter Diane Cervo and her husband Marc of Fairmont, her son Pat Costello and his wife Jenni of Fairmont, her grandchildren, Cara Cervo-Hawkinberry and her husband David “Hawk” of Fairmont, Ryan Costello of Washington, D.C, Jessica Costello of Morgantown, and Brett Costello and his wife Courtney of Fairmont, as well as her great granddaughter Zoey Rose Costello. She is also survived by her brother, Albert Muto, sister-in-law, Margaret Jane Biafore, as well as several nieces and nephews who complete her family. Evelyn had some very special and close friends who she loved like family: longtime neighbor, Linda Bond, her #1 cheerleader, Mandy Steele, Sister Stella Cronauer, and her soul sister, Cathy Reed-Vanata. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Muto, and her sisters-in-law, Josephine and Alberta Muto. The family would like to extend a heartfelt special thank you to Amedysis Hospice and her one and only favorite nurse, who she adored and loved like her own, Courtnie McKnight. As well as a special thank you to her long list of caregivers, especially Carol, Debbie, Sharon, and Tara “Miss T”. Memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association, 1275 K.
