Obituary of John David Long
John David Long, 72, of Fairmont, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He was born May 23, 1947 in Fairmont, WV a son of the late Helen L. Stanley Long.
John was a Christian by faith. He was a veteran with the U.S. Air Force having served in Germany with the 112th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron during the Vietnam War. He served as a senior engineer with Pratt & Whitney Engine Services in Bridgeport for over 32 years.
John grew up in Florida where he had served as a “bait boy” on fishing boats. His boating experiences in childhood led to his love of Tygart Lake in Grafton. John enjoyed spending time at his camp and riding his jet ski on the lake. He thoroughly enjoyed everything in aviation and aeronautics, and was able to commit to memory aviation specifics and details. He was a mentor to many people in their aviation careers.
John is survived by his friend and caregiver, Dottie Rodetsky, as well as close friends, French and Diane Cox, JoEllen Hefner, and Duane and Debbie Shaffer.

Family and friends may visit at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 10AM until 2PM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home at 2PM with Rev.
