Obituary of Robert Lee Mercer

Robert Lee Mercer, 85, of Fairmont, West Virginia died Monday, April 8, 2019 in the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, West Virginia.  He was born December 24, 1933 in Fairview, WV a son of the late Jesse Lee Mercer & Stella May Haught Mercer.  He is survived by his wife Lila Nell Boore Mercer.

Mr. Mercer is survived by 3 daughters and 3 son in laws Susan & Michael Bushko of Fairmont, WV, Karen & Jeff Noechel of Fairmont, WV and Diana & Howdy Miller of Fairmont, WV, a brother and sister in law Richard & Diane Mercer of Fairview, WV, 2 sisters Mary Schipono of Fallbrook, CA and Ruth Cutrone of Fairview, WV, 7 grandchildren and their spouses Aaron & Erin Bushko, Kara & Travis Oates, Kelly & Matthew Cutrone, Jeff & Crystal Noechel, Corey & Kaylyn Noechel, Matthew Miller and Adam Miller, 10 great grandchildren Kylie Bushko, Nolan Bushko, Easton Cutrone, Ella Bushko, Abi Cutrone, Sara Noechel, Tucker Noechel, Roslyn Noechel, Garrett Oates and Tatum Oates and his beloved cat “Mr. T”.

He was preceded in death by a sister Martha Konoski and a brother in law Frank Schipono.

Mr. Mercer was a retired Maintenance Tech for the Owens – Illinois Corporation of Fairmont, WV, member of the Local Glass Blowers Union and the AFL-CIO.  He was a member of the Life United Methodist Church of Fairmont, WV and a 1951 Graduate of Fairview High School.  Mr. Mercer was an avid fisherman and hunter, having taken several fishing trips to Canada.  He enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sporting events and loved being with his family.  He and his wife delighted in traveling the world.  Mr. Mercer had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed talking with others.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Life United Methodist Church, 3000 Technolgy Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554.  A private visitation and funeral service will be held for the family.  The committal service will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens.  Online condolences may be made to the family at www.FORDFUNERALHOMES.com
