Obituary of Retta Mae Mugnano

Retta Mae Mugnano, 90, of Fairmont, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at her residence.  She was born on April 7, 1928 in Harmon, WV a daughter of the late Jason A. and Hazel White Ketterman.  She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas James Mugnano on July 31, 1979.

Retta was a graduate of the Peniel Bible Institute in Stanton, KY and was a long- time member of the Restoration Church in Fairmont.  She worked with Owens Illinois Glass Plant in the selecting department for over 33 years until their closing in 1982.  She then worked for five years at the John Manchin Sr. Healthcare in Fairmont in the food service department. 

Retta was the eighth of sixteen children.  She lived life to its fullest.   She was a member of both the Post 629 and Post 7048 VFW in Fairmont, as well as a member of the Ladies Auxillary.  She belonged to the Eagles and the Moose Lodge of Fairmont.  Retta, known as “Mum Mum”, loved traveling, bowling, bird watching, and gardening around her house.  She mowed and weed-eated her own property up until the age of 70.  She had enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband.  She was a hard worker and loved to host family gatherings.  Her family came first, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.  Retta always saw the good in everything and everyone she met.  The world is a better place because she was in it.

Survivors include her son Mattio James and his wife Monie Jo Smiers Mugnano of Fairmont and her daughter, Patricia M. Berry of Fairmont, her grandchildren: Kim and her husband Mike Baker, Kara Lamb and her companion Randy Stewart, Mattio and his wife Lisa Mugnano, Michael Mugnano, and Jamie and her husband Wade Wright, great grandchildren: Kameron Berry, Patrick Laxton, Ian Baker, Gracie Lamb, Gabriella Mugnano, Lolita Wright, Franchesca Mugnano, Jett Wright, Hayden Stewart, and Cameron Stewart.  She is also survived by her last surviving sibling of 16 children, Gerald “Bud” and his wife Loretta Ketterman of Jefferson City, Missouri, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 2PM until 8PM, and on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 11AM until 1PM.  The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 1PM with Pastor Jeff Fluharty officiating.  Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.  Online condolences may be made to www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
