Obituary of Dona Ruth Townsend

Dona Ruth Townsend, 98, of Fairmont, WV, passed away late Thursday evening in Fazio’s Elder Care in Monongah, WV.   She was born October 7, 1920 in Lewis County, WV, daughter of the late Homer and Nancy Ware Riffle.   She was preceded in death by her husband Creed W. Townsend, who died in 1968.   Mrs. Townsend was a Methodist by faith, being a 50 years member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Rivesville, WV.  She served as the church treasurer for many years.   Dona worked at Sweet Williams in the Middletown Mall for over 23 years as a grill cook.   She earlier worked at Tomato Queen  on Watson Hill in Fairmont, WV and served West Virginia University in Dorm – cafeteria services.   Dona enjoyed bowling, being active at Mid – City Bowling with various leagues.   She also enjoyed traveling on many bus trips with Senior Citizens and the WV Travel Club.   Survivors include two daughters, Freda M. Kelley of Fairmont, WV and Veta Cottrill of Anmore, WV,   Two sons, Kenneth L. and his wife Sandra Townsend of Rivesville, WV and Richard A. Townsend of Farmington, WV,   Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren,   and several nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by a daughter JoAnn Townsend,   three sons, Delmas S., Charles Edward, and William Lawrence Townsend,   a son-in-law, Ray Scott Kelley,   a Daughter-in-law, Joyce E. Townsend,   five brothers, Buren, Gaylord, Homer Sherwood, Warren, and William F. Riffle.   Family and friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV from 2pm until 8pm on Sunday and 11am until 1pm on Monday.   Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Monday, 4-1-2019, at 1pm, with Rev.
