Obituary of Richard Herbert Merrill

Richard Herbert Merrill, 74, of Julia St., Rivesville, WV, passed away early Thursday morning in his residence.   He was born June 24, 1944 in Fairmont, WV, son of the late Austin A. and Sylvia Rogers Merrill Morris.   Richard was a member of Everlasting Convenant Church in Fairmont, WV,   He served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crises, with 14 years of service.   He also was a coal miner, working in the Rachel Mine, Eastern Associate, as a welder.   He retired, working for the County Commission in 2015, after five years of service.   Richard enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley Davidson.   He loved spending time with his grandchildren.   He also enjoyed the many friends he had around the Fairmont area and the courthouse.   Survivors include three sons, Richard Brian Merrill and his companion Lynda Krivoniak of Harrison County, WV, Daniel J. Merrill and his companion Sherri M. Dennis of Rivesville, WV, and Jamie and his wife Kay Cleavenger Tackish of Fairmont, WV.   four grandchildren, Alyssa Williams, Nicholas Merrill, and Parker Merrill all of Rivesville, WV, and Jamieson Tackish of Fairmont, WV,   a sister and her husband, Debbie and Bill Keener of Rivesville, WV,   several nieces and nephews,   and his pets Ikey and Max.   He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Dennis Merrill,   and a sister, Joyce Cutright.   Richard has chosen cremation services.   Family and friends will be greeted from 1pm until 8pm on Tuesday and 11am until 12noon on Wednesday at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper St., Rivesville, WV.   A memorial service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday, 2-27-2019, at 12noon, with Pastor Bill Stutler officiating.   Burial will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV.   The Marion County Veterans will hold full military honors at the graveside.   The family requests that all memorial donations be made to the Marion County Humane Society, 2731 Locust Ave. Fairmont, WV, 26554.
