Obituary of David Porter Donley
David Porter Donley, 79, of Fairmont passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the Acuity Specialty Hospital of Ohio Valley in Weirton. He was born in Washington, PA on August 6, 1939, a son of the late Clarence Alvin Donley and Helen Goodwin Porter Donley. David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra Harbert Donley.
David is survived by his son, Mark Donley and his wife Beth of Lakeland, TN; his daughter, Robin Edmond and her husband Todd of Weirton; three grandchildren, Scott Edmond of Weirton, Matthew Donley and Hannah Donley both of Lakeland, TN; a brother, James Donley and his wife Rebecca of Harrisonburg, VA; his sister, Patti Hall and her husband Dwight of Joppa, MD; a sister-in-law, Alice Donley of Montgomery, AL; a dear friend, Billy Wix of Fairmont as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, David was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Donley.
David was a 1957 graduate of East Fairmont High School. He attended WVU and graduated from the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School. He worked as a machinist for Westinghouse and then Philips. David was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, gardening, working in his gunsmith shop and visiting the family camp in Smoke Hole.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in David’s memory to the Center for Organ Recovery & Education, 204 Sigma Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
In accordance with David’s wishes, his body will be cremated. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Thursday, February 21, 2019, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
