Obituary of Betty Jane Wertz Campbell

Betty Jane Wertz Campbell, 91, formerly of Fairmont, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019, at the Rosewood Center in Grafton. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 4, 1927, the daughter of the late Silas Grant Wertz Jr. and Elizabeth Rambo Wertz. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Edwin Scott Campbell.

Betty is survived by her son, Daniel Scott Campbell and his wife Susan of Hampton, VA; her daughter, The Reverend Jacqueline Lee Campbell of Fairmont and her brother, Merle Grant Wertz of Westfield, New York.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a special cousin, Betty Herbster.

Betty was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont and a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School. She worked as secretary in the Home Economics Department at Fairmont State College and at the Lutheran Synod Office. Betty was active in the Women’s group at Grace Lutheran, an avid reader and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. She rescued and adopted many stray animals.

The family requests memorial contributions be made in Betty’s memory to Grace Lutheran Church, 300 Gaston Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554, or to the Church of the Covenant, PO Box 26, Grafton, WV 26354.

The family has entrusted Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, with the arrangements. In accordance with Betty’s wishes, her body was cremated. The family will receive friends on April 4, 2019, at the Church of the Covenant, 16 Washington St., Grafton, WV 26354, from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M. A memorial service will be held on her birthday, April 4, 2019, in the church at 11 A.M. with Pastor Casey Lieneman officiating. A committal service will follow at 12 Noon at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown with Pastor Matt Holbert officiating.
