Obituary of Douglas Albert Corwin

     Douglas Albert Corwin, 54 years of age of Fairmont, WV passes away on December 11, 2018 at his residence.  He was born September 1, 1964 in Fairmont, WV, the son Ruby Turner Corwin of Rivesville, WV and the late Richard Edward Corwin.

     He is survived by a son Seth Douglas Corwin of Rivesville, WV; a daughter Kelsey Elaine Corwin and her fiancé Jonathon Halpenny of Fairmont and their mother Shelly Corwin of Fairmont, WV; a companion Paula Tokarz VanGilder of Fairmont, WV and her children Jacob VanGilder of Fairmont, WV and Stephanie VanGilder of Fairmont, WV; a sister Sue Ann Lake and her husband Phillip of Lancaster, SC; three brothers Richard Edward Corwin II of Lesage, WV, Bradley Wayne Corwin of Rivesville, WV and Eric Todd Corwin and his wife Tina of Rivesville, WV;  longtime friends Allan Toothman and Steven Kish and an uncle, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.  He was also preceded in death by maternal grandparents Iva S. Turner Reed and Woodrow Turner and paternal grandparents Kenneth and Dorothy Corwin.

     Doug was a 1982 graduate of Rivesville High School.  During his high school years, he participated and earned sports letters in football and basketball.  He graduated from Fairmont State College in 1986 with degrees in criminal justice and business administration. 

     He loved coaching Little League Baseball and his daughter’s basketball teams of the Rivesville Rams.  He enjoyed giving back to his high school alma mater and was responsible for creating the current playground.  He also worked with the youth as a sports official and as a substitute teacher for the Marion County Board of Education. 

     All that knew Doug realized his passion for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.  He made several trips to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Al to cheer on his team.  His family wants to conclude his article with two words, “Roll Tide”!

     The family requests donations be made in Doug’s memory to Rivesville Parent Teacher Organization, Rivesville Elementary and Middle School, 229 Phillips Avenue, Rivesville, WV 26588 or Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.

     Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Second and Jasper Streets in Rivesville, WV on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Stanley Merrifield presiding.
