Obituary of Mary Jane Vandegrift

Mary Jane Vandegrift, 76, of the Levels Community, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Fairmont Regional Medical Center.  She was born December 29, 1941 in McDonald, PA, a daughter of the late Ernest C. and Helen A. Murdock Griffith.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward “Sonny” Vandegrift on April 8, 2016.

Survivors include her five children, Carl “Gene” Vandegrift and his wife Lisa of Fairmont, Glenn Edward Vandegrift and his wife Melinda of Greensburg, PA, Reverend Jesse Ray Vandegrift and his wife Raeanna of Arkansas, Jill Renee Vandegrift of Fairmont, and Jana Mohassel and her husband Payam of Maryland, grandchildren, Ashley Vandegrift, Emily Vandegrift, Carl Vandegrift, Kenneth Vandegrift, Rebekah Vandegrift, Josiah Vandegrift, Kian Mohassel, Nila Mohassel, Adelie Mohassel, Daxton Vandegrift, and Danica Vandegrift, two brothers, Tom Griffith of Kansas and Jack Griffith of McDonald, PA and a sister, Kay Schultz of McDonald, PA.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Griffith.

Mrs. Vandegrift was a graduate of WV Training Center in Point Pleasant and attended Fairmont Bible Methodist Church. Prior to her marriage, she was Dorm Matron of WV Training Center. She enjoyed sewing clothing for her children over the years and going to church camps and revivals which she attended with her husband in several different states, her favorite being Clinton Camp in Pennsylvania. She also enjoyed the Grafton Auction House and was an accomplished piano and accordion player.

Friends and family may visit at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Thursday, October 18, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday, October 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Wesley Grissom officiating.  Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV.  Online condolences may be made to www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
