Delmas Cain
Ira Delmas Cain, 66 , of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born January 28, 1952 in Fairmont, WV a son of the late Ira B. “Benny” and Mary Kendall Skarzinski Cain. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kathy A. Gross Cain.
Delmas was a Christian by faith, he attended Farmington High School until he entered the United States Army to serve in Korea and also in Vietnam. He worked as a machinist for the Hazel Atlas Company which became the Continental Can Company which later became the Anchor Hocking Company in Clarksburg. Delmas enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson when he was able and attending classic car shows in the area. He loved to read any and every automobile magazine or book. He loved his ritual of his daily breakfast with his friends and the staff of McAteer’s Restaurant, and loved to putter around the house spending his time taking care of his home and the grounds.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Mariah and her husband Bradley Thrasher of Fairmont, grandchildren, Jeremiah and Paityn Thrasher, his sister Sheila Shaffer-White and her husband David White of Idamay, his brother Joseph and his wife Cleo “Sis” Skarzinski of Morgantown, his brother-in-law, Kenneth Gross of Fairmont, his sisters-in-law Valinda Tagg of Fairmont, Michael and his wife Linda Gross of Surry, VA, and William and his wife Lisa Gross of Fairmont. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as his close friends, Jim Pulice and Walter Trippett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Grzybowski Cain in March of 2000.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caring staff of the Louis A. Johnson Medical Center in Clarksburg for their attentive care and concern.
Friends and family may visit the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 1PM until 8PM and on Monday, September 24, 2018 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11AM officiated by Pastor Scott Hall who was instrumental in Delmas's Salvation. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV where military rites will be held by the Marion County Veterans Council.
