Obituary of Richard "Dick" Nichols

Richard “Dick” Nichols, 83, of Fairmont, WV passed away early thursday morning in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV surrounded by his family. He was born August 28, 1932 in Fairmont, WV, son of the late Marvel and Iva “Carpenter” Nichols. Mr. Nichols was a Methodist by faith. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1971, working in the Strategic Air Command. Later in life he was active in appliance repair. Dick was an avid WVU sports fan and enjoyed his many travels. He traveled to all countries abroad. Survivors include his wife, Joann Mullenax Howell Nichols of Fairmont, WV (Married over 48 years), A daughter, Margaret Howell Viands of Fairmont, a grandson, D.J. and his wife Michelle Viands of Coolville, OH, a great grandson, Bryson Tripp Viands of Coolville, OH, 2 sisters, Judy and her husband John Shaffer of Fairmont, WV and Joanie Audia of Fairmont, WV, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Francis Viands, a brother, Jack Nichols, and 3 sisters, Patty Nichols, Marvel Lee Fox, and Carol Omdick. Mr. Nichols has chosen cremation services. Family and friends will be greeted Wednesday morning, 5-4-2016, Morgantown Ave., from 11am until 1pm at the Baptist Temple Church, Morgantown Ave., Fairmont, WV. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 1pm, with Dr. Rev. Holly Faulkner officiating. A private burial will follow at a later time.
