My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy goes out to every member of Sam's family. I understand the depth of loss in losing Sam... utterly heart-wrenching. We knew that to truly know him, was to love him.
The great majority of memories I carry of Sam are some of the best and warmest memories of my life. I'm sure you all feel the same. This loss is profound for those who loved and interacted with Sam. I am eternally grateful for what short time I had with him, as I learned a lot about the truly important things in life. He intensely appreciated: Mother Nature, the love & companionship of a good dog (or two), freedom, art, a good fire, a fish on his hook, peaceful-easy people, and most importantly, the unconditional love of his family.
My last conversation with Sam took place about 24 hours before he passed.... I cannot tell you the tremendous gratitude I have for that conversation. I will hold his last thoughts and desires dear to my heart, always.
May you eternally Rest In Peace, dear Sam.... I'll see you again someday. And to the McLaughlin family, I pray for your peace every day, in losing your beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin..... friend. God Bless you all! xoxo

My sincere sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the entire family. Ruth Ann, Sally, Amy, Gretchen and Matt along with all the extended family members. May you all find comfort in this very difficult time of Sam's passing in that he is at peace.
With his paint brush in hand, he has not yet begun to start on the canvas in front of him. Distracted by the view of his father. He is with his Dad sitting starring back at him as they are joined together again.
Sam will be missed by many. Friends are the pillars on your porch. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes they lean on you, and sometimes it's just enough to know that they are standing by.
I send you peace and courage for you all.

I know Sam put up a valiant fight, but this is a vile disease and it takes without warning. My sincere condolences to all his living family members, but most notably to his Mother, Ruth Ann. I had the chance to see Sam in April at his home and he was kind enough to hand me his original framed pastel painting of my daughter on the beach as a happy, go lucky baby that captures a feeling of complete peace. It was the last of many beautiful gestures awarded to me and my family by this great and honest soul. He will be missed, but never far from my mind recalling the great memories we shared together. Rest in peace Sammy O! I will see you again, but not yet, not yet!

You know life's always funny. Why does God always take the good ones so soon. God gives us little gifts to lift up others. Sam will always be remembered through his artwork that will live on through the years. You will always be able to see him through his paintings. I had no idea how gifted he was he was very kind in high school. I was very shy and he always talk to me and always said hello Melinda. Which meant a lot to me because I was very shy. I want to say to give you my deepest sympathy for the passing if such a wonderful person. So when you see a beautiful cloud maybe that's something that's Sam made.

To the Family,
I would like to give my deepest and sincere condolences for your loss, OUR loss! Sam was truly an awesome and genuine person to everyone who knew him, all the way from grade school at Fairmont Catholic with Sister Vivian and Sister D, to high school at Fairmont Senior, and during and after the college years. He was always part of the local crowd at various establishments in Fairmont and Morgantown, and no doubt there will always be an empty stool in these places for such a great guy!
Sam is definitely resting easy now, after sadly being taken from this earth. May you all find comfort in knowing he is in a much better place, and experiencing the love of Jesus Christ in a timeless way. He is truly in Great Company with so many who were called Home before him, but his memories and love reside in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May Sam Rest In Peace, Always and Forever, and Perpetual Light shine upon him! May his soul, and the souls of ALL our faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace, Amen!!

Both John and I were so saddened to hear of Sam’s illness and then of his passing. He was a courageous fighter and fought to the end. We enjoyed spending time with him on Top Sail and was an easy going and gentle person. We will cherish our two original art pieces in our home forever. His art work will live in on forever.
