Obituary of Martha Jane Straight Orr

Martha Jane Straight Orr, 93, passed away April 18, 2018 surrounded by her family.   She was born December 26, 1924 to Lawrence Claude and Elba Vandevort Straight.   She was raised in Fairmont and graduated from the Fairmont General Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.   She married the love of her life, Homer Orr, on August 28, 1948.   Surviving to mourn her loss are four children and spouses; Sharon and Bill Leeder of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tricia and Bill Julian of Fairmont, WV, Greg and Gigi Orr of Tomball, Texas, and Lisa and Tom Kirk , with whom she made her home for the past four years in Mars Hill, North Carolina.    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Homer,  Two sons, Don and Hank Orr,   sisters, Helen Caplan and husband Irv and, Ruth  Bice and husband George,   Brother, Earl Straight and wife Dobbs,   Brothers-in-law Raymond Orr, Harris Orr, and Edwin Orr and wife Hattie,   and sister-in-law Irene Orr.   She is also survived by daughter-in-law Mary Ann Orr of Fairmont, WV,   and eleven grandchildren; April and Rigo Bravo of Tomball, Texas, Bill and Kate Leeder of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Chris and Katie Leeder of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mia and Melvin Davis of Fairmont, WV, Christina Julian and Ty Anderson of Morgantown, WV, John and Jessica Julian of Bridgeport, WV, Jeremy and Laura Orr of Dallas, Texas, Donnie Orr and Lisa Urse of Fairmont, WV, Patrick and Abbey Julian of Fairmont, WV, Brian and Alicia Riggs of Fairmont, WV, and Travis and Crystal Orr of Dallas, Texas,   twelve great grandchildren; Mary Martha, and Marina Bravo of Tomball, Texas, Daphne Orr of Dallas, Texas, Jonathan Orr of Dallas, Texas, Abbey and Hudson Leeder of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Aubri and Gabbi Orr of Fairmont, WV, Anthony and Dominick Julian of Bridgeport, WV, Avery Anderson of Morgantown, WV, and Addie Urse of Fairmont, WV.   She is also survived by two Sisters-in-law, Helen Orr of Ballston Lake, New York and Jackie Lindbeck of Bowie, Maryland, as well as several nieces and nephews and her faithful companion Foxy.   Martha was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother, great grandmother, and nurse.   She had an eternally optimistic outlook on life and was truly the core of her families strength.   She could find something positive in every situation and was inspirational to all who knew her.   Her passion for music evolved from an early interest in becoming an opera singer.   She worked for many years as a nurse at Fairmont General Hospital and is fondly remembered by the nurses and staff who worked with her there.   Family and friends may call Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Rd., Fairmont, WV from 3pm until 8pm on Friday, May 4, 2018, and 1pm until 2pm on Saturday, May 5, 2018.   Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, 5-5-2018, at 2pm, with Mr. Roy Meeks officiating.   Burial will follow in Mannington Memorial Park in Mannington, WV.   The family would like to thank Martha’s wonderful Pine Grove friends; Carol Jones, David Campbell, Maronee Jones, Junior Brooks, Chuck and Cathy Coster, and Billie Stansberry.   We would also like to thank Care Partners Hospice for their care and support that allowed Martha to remain in her beautiful home in the mountains, as she wished, until the end of her life.   A special thanks to Mary Ashe, RN, Amy Pike, SW, Cindy Coleman, Chaplain and Dr. Jennie Barnhardt for keeping mom comfortable and always making her smile.   The family requests that memorial donations be made to Care Partners Hospice, in Asheville, NC or a Hospice Agency of your choice.
