Obituary of Gerald E. Hess
Gerald E. (Jerry) Hess, 77, of Baxter, WV, passed away early Saturday evening in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Clarksburg, WV. He was born September 25, 1940 in Everttsville, WV, son of the late Wendell Hess and Betty Johnson Hess Esposito. Jerry was a member of Baxter United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Rivesville High School. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Florida Power in Port St. Lucy, FL, working in maintenance. He earlier worked at Lowes of Fairmont, WV as an assistant manager and Fairmont Lumber Yard. Jerry enjoyed all family activities. He loved his grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodworking and making furniture and crafts, outdoor work with his tractor, and the many flea market trips. Jerry also looked forward to meeting various friends at Fairmont McDonalds. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Cunningham Hess of Baxter, WV, 3 sons, Rick and Debbie Hess of Fairmont, WV, David Hess of Fairmont, WV, and Jeffrey Hess of Fairmont, WV, 4 grandchildren, Trish and Greg Bray of Shinnston, WV, Rick and Michele Hess of Fairmont, WV, Jared and Bri Hess of Homestead, FL, and Justin Hess of Fairmont, WV, 2 great grandchildren, Jeremiah Carpenter of Shinnston, WV and Vinnie Hess of Fairmont, WV, a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Patty Hess of Fairmont, WV, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother James Hess. Family and friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV from 11am until 1pm on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday, 3-28-2018 at 1pm, with Rev. Bill Toothman officiating. Burial will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, WV.
