Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Board
Elizabeth Board, 98, of Morgantown, WV, passed away early Tuesday morning in her residence. She was born August 30, 1919 in Ramsey, WV, daughter of the late William C. and Leona McClung Cole. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Harold Board, who died in 1970. Mrs. Board was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Charleston, WV. She was a graduate of Ansted High School in 1937 and a graduate of Morris Harvey College, Mountain-state Hospital Nursing School. She served as a nurse in the Greenbrier Hotel Hospital during W. W. II. She later was instrumental in opening two hospitals, Charleston Memorial Hospital (CAMC), where she retired in 1984 as a Head Nurse, and Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston. Elizabeth looked forward to the spring and summer months. She very much enjoyed family activities with her brother, sisters, and grandchildren. Survivors include her son and his wife, Thomas “Tom” and Carol Board of Morgantown, WV, 2 grandchildren, Angelia L. Dorsey and her fiancé Robert Juristy of Morgantown, WV and Thomas and Erin Board of Fairmont, WV, 1 great grandchild, Taryn Elizabeth Board of Fairmont, WV, Several nieces and nephews including Betty and Dick Baker of Grand Ledge, MI, Patricia and John Crites of Petersburg, WV, Elbert Lee Cole of Baltimore, MD, Joy and Mike Harris of Palestine WV, Janet and Brent Bucher of Ohio, Judy Gross of Clay, WV, and Harold “Kip” Ross of Charleston, WV. She was preceded in death by 1 brother, Elbert Cole, 2 sisters and their husbands, Ethel and Oren Legg and Elnora and Quentin Britt, and several nieces and nephews, Irene Ross, Thomas Cole, and William and Margaret Britt. Family and friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV from 4 until 7:30pm on Thursday, 3-22-2018. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30pm. Friday afternoon, Mrs. Board will lie in state at the Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens in Cross Lanes, WV from 1pm until 2pm. A Committal service with interment will be held Friday, 3-23-2018, at 2pm, with Rev. Clyde Beard officiating. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Admedisys Hospice, 3596 Collins Ferry Rd., Suite 250, Morgantown, WV, 26505.
