Obituary of Dennis William Hermosilla
Dennis William Hermosilla, 61, of Mt. Vernon Ave., Fairmont, WV, passed away early Thursday evening in his residence. He was born July 22, 1955 in Fairmont, WV, son of Frances Alessio Hermosilla of Fairmont, WV and the late Michael A. Hermosilla. Dennis was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School in 1973, a graduate of Fairmont State College in 1980 and obtained his Masters Degree from West Virginia University. He was employed with the Marion County Board of Education as a teacher, Coach ,and Athletic Administrator, with 30 years of service. Dennis started the 4th grade girl’s basketball league with the all girl team at Watson Elementary. He also developed Race Class Gender Curriculum for all Marion County High Schools. Dennis was also very active, for 26 years, instructing basketball camps with Morgan Wootten in Maryland, obtaining his Lifetime Achievement Award. Following retirement, fulfilling a lifelong dream, Dennis became involved in the food industry. He catered many weddings and events. Recently, Dennis and his family established Hermosilla’s Deli in Fairmont, WV. Dennis enjoyed family activities, never knew a stranger, and was a true family man. Survivors include his wife Patty Louise Hermosilla of Fairmont, WV (married 41 years), A son and his fiancé, Nick Joseph Hermosilla and Sheray Efaw, both of Fairmont, WV, 2 daughters and their husbands; Ali Raye and Chris Gross of Fairmont, WV and Dominica and Klint West of Bridgeport, WV, his grandson, Aidan Gross of Fairmont, WV, a brother and his wife, Michael Jr. and Ann Hermosilla of Fairmont, WV, his father-in-law, William Smith of Fairmont, WV, 3 sisters-in-law; Nikki Hermosilla of Fairmont, WV, Susie and her husband Dale Moran of Fayetteville, TN, and Robin and her husband Doug Hannah of Fairmont, WV, a brother-in-law and his wife, David and Vicki Smith of Fairmont, WV, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Hermosilla, his mother-in-law, Dolores Smith, and a nephew, Anthony Hermosilla. Dennis has chosen cremation services. Family and friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV during visiting hours from 10am until 3pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 3pm, with Rev. Larry Buckland officiating.
