Obituary of Betty Jo Duncan Orr

     Mrs. Betty Jo Duncan Orr of Bridgeport, WV went home to be with the Lord and her late husband, Robert, on November 1, 2017, in the presence of family at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. Born in Clarksburg on May 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late W. Hayward Duncan and Ruth Ellen Swiger Duncan. She and Bob were married on June 19, 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, a brother Richard Duncan and his wife Mary Edith of Maryland, brother William K. Duncan and his wife Norma of West Milford, and brother-in-law Bond Slussar of Morgantown.  

     Surviving are three daughters, Deborah Jo (Michael) Mano of Mt. Clare, Bobbie Sue (David) Maust of Powell, OH, and Tamara Leigh (Brian) Thompson of Downingtown, PA; six grandchildren, Stacy (Jeff) Hess of the Maple Lake Community, Beth Nuzum of the Maple Lake Community, Joshua Maust of Columbus, OH, Michael Thompson of Conshohocken, PA, Taylor Thompson of Baltimore, MD, and Nicole Thompson of Downingtown, PA; four great-grandsons, Hayden Hess, Camden Hess, Nathan Hess, and Sawyer Nuzum, all of the Maple Lake Community; brother James H. (Cassandra) Duncan of Bridgeport; sisters-in-law Bonnie (John) Benedum of Charlotte, NC and Billie Slussar of Morgantown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     Betty gave of her time freely, and was active in many civic projects in Clarksburg, Morgantown, and St. Albans. She also belonged to a number of clubs and organizations, serving as a charter member of Rainbow Girls in Clarksburg, as well as a member of the Queen Esther Chapter No. 11 Order of the Eastern Star, the Women's Club of Clarksburg, the Jr. Women's Club of Morgantown, and the Jayceettes in Elks and St. Albans. Along with her husband, Betty was a member of Elks Country Club, Sunny Croft Country Club, and Arcadian Shores Golf Club in Myrtle Beach.

     Betty enjoyed working in real estate as a broker and owner of a family-owned real estate company, and later as a broker and owner of Orr Real Estate. She also worked as a real estate broker in South Carolina.  Betty took great joy in spending time with friends and family. Above all, she remained deeply in love with her husband Bob until her final breath. 

     A gathering of friends will be held at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the church at 11:00 AM with Reverend Dr. Ken A. Ramsey presiding.  The interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, WV.
