Obituary of Sophie S. Rowan

Sophie S. Rowan, 91, of Tygart Center in Fairmont, WV, formerly of Wise St. in Baxter, WV, passed away early Thursday afternoon in the health facility.   She was born April 13, 1926 in Pennsylvania, daughter of Paul and Anna Smerka.   She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Burl Rowan in 1992.   She was a graduate of Morgantown High School.   Mrs. Rowan was a mother and housewife in the Marion County area.   Survivors include a son and his wife, Gary and Gloria Rowan of Morgantown, WV,   a daughter and her husband, Diana and James Townsend of Fairmont, WV,   4 grandchildren, Gretchen and Jacob Mapel of Morgantown, WV, Garrett and Ashley Rowan of Morgantown, WV, Crystal and John Perry of Rivesville, WV, and Jeffrey and Mona Townsend of Kingwood, WV,   6 great grandchildren, Jeffery Townsend, Jr., Maya Townsend, Colton Perry, Margaret Mapel, Hannah Mapel, and Addison Rowan, a sister, Julie Hanlan of Cleveland, OH, and several nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by 1 brother, John Smerka, and  4 sisters, Mary Lord, Pauline Jimmie, Margaret and Anna Smerka.   Family and friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper St., Rivesville, WV from 5pm until 8pm on Sunday and 11am until 1pm on Monday.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Monday, 6-5-2017, at 1pm, with Pastor Tammy Phillips officiating.   Burial will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, WV.   On line condolences may be made to www.FORDFUNERALHOMES.com.
