Obituary of William Roy Ponton

William Roy Ponton, 68, of Fairmont,WV, went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2017. His courageous battle with cancer is over and he is at peace.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA he is the beloved son of the late Roy William Ponton and Gertrude L Ponton. He is survived by his loving sisters, Sandra Layman of Fairmont, WV and Karen (Frank) Doran of Georgetown, TX. Granddaughter Haley (Brian) Shuman, 3 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill proudly served his country and is a decorated US Army, Vietnam War veteran. He graduated from California University of PA and retired after 25 years as Personnel Director of the PA Department of Corrections.
He loved the outdoors, wildlife, journaling and was an avid painter.
Bill will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA. Family and friends may attend the full military gravesite service on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Rd., Bridgeville, PA 15017.
