Obituary of Joseph E. Nutter

Mr. Joseph E. Nutter, 80 years of age of Lost Creek, WV passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born April 25, 1936 in Weston, WV the son of the late Thomas E. and Wilma Virginia Atkinson Nutter. He is survived by his partner Larry D. Myers. He is also survived by Thomas E. Nutter of Louisville, KY, Margaret Myers of Fairmont, WV, John Myers and his wife Rose of Fairmont, WV, Debbie Myers of St. Albans, WV, Lisa and Leonard Boyce of Fairmont, WV, Seth Myers of Fairmont, WV, Drew Myers and his wife Brittany of Fairmont, WV, Chris Myers and his wife Bobbi of St. Albans, WV, Michelle Catersino and her husband Eric of Columbus, OH and other extended family. He was also preceded in death by a former partner William R. Hart, Edward Altkinson and his wife Alda, Florence “Patsy” Estel, Harvey L. Myers and a good friend Charlie Miller. Joe graduated from Weston High School in 1954. He attended West Liberty State College and graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He served in the United States Army. The Ford family is honored to serve a friend that did so much for funeral service in Harrison County. He was the former owner and licensed funeral director and embalmer at Davis Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg, WV. He retired from funeral service in April 2003. He was a member of the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association and was the president of the association in 1987. He was presented with the Charles E. Dodd Award, Funeral Director of the Year for 2005. He conducted for American College, Louvain, Belgium a seminar on “Death and the Clergy”. Joe was active in the Clarksburg community. He was a member and past president of the Clarksburg Kiwanis Club, a member and past president of the Clarksburg Friends of the Library, a member and past president of the Central West Virginia Management Club, a member and past president of Lewis Clark Chapter S.A.R. and a member and past president of the Board of Directors of the Harrison/Clarksburg Public Library. He was also a member of the Clarksburg Lodge #482 BPOE, a member of the Clarksburg Lodge #52 LOOM and a member of Roy E. Parrish Post 13, American Legion. When not working funeral service, he enjoyed spending time on his beautiful property in Harrison County. Joe loved his animals that he cared for especially Maggie, a miniature horse. This passion for animals led him to be a member of the American Highland Cattle Association, American Miniature Horse Association, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation and Ruffed Gross Society. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Joe’s memory to Maddie’s Angels, 726 East Park Avenue, Box 278, Fairmont, WV 26554. Maddie’s Angels provides love and care for rescue animals. Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV on Wednesday from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Dr. Ken A. Ramsey presiding. The interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, WV. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
