Obituary of Joseph Daniel Haldeman

Joseph Daniel Haldeman, 88, of Cheat Lake community, passed away Tuesday evening in his residence. He was born May 31, 1928 in Fairmont, WV, son of the late James Dorsey and Grace Mae Johnson Haldeman. Joe was a member of Rivesville United Methodist Church, recently attending Chestnut Ridge Church in Morgantown, WV. He served in the U.S. Navy, traveling around the world with his twin brother Jim on the U.S.S. Cruiser, Toledo. Joe gave 3 years of service. He also served with the occupational forces in Japan. Joe and his brother Jim started their own business, Haldeman Brothers Home Builders, in Marion County. He retired in 1992. Joe served as magistrate, judge, and the mayor of Rivesville, WV for 3 years. The town of Rivesville later named a river park and street for Joe in his honor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling to Canada and the Arctic Circle with his brother Jim. Survivors include his wife Irene O. Gillis Morris Haldeman of Cheat Lake community (married 47 years); 2 step sons and their spouses, Ernest and Joslyn Morris of Bridgeport, WV and Donald Wayne and Linda Morris of Atlanta, GA; 4 grandchildren, Adam Scott Morris of Clarksburg, WV, Aaron Patrick Morris of Bridgeport, WV, Carly Rae Morris of Atlanta, GA, and Lacy Joe and her husband Patrick Kittle of Omaha, NB; a great grandchild, Sam Bennett Kittle of Omaha, NB; a sister, Olive Bowman of Huntsville, AL; 6 nieces and nephews, Jim and Robin Haldeman of Fairmont, WV, Timothy and Teresa Haldeman of Baxter, WV, Deana and Gary Knicely of Fairmont, WV, Debbie and David Spevock of Montana Mines, WV, Richard Haldeman of White Hall community, and Daniel and Diane Bowman of Huntsville, AL; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Haldeman of Fairmont, WV. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Haldeman. Family and friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper St., Rivesville, WV from 4pm until 8pm on Friday and 10am until 11am on Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Saturday, 3-11-2017, at 11am, with Rev. Stanley Merrifield officiating. Burial will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, WV.
