Obituary of Maria Edith McGee

Maria Edith McGee, 89, of Pleasant Valley Rd., Fairmont, WV, passed away Friday afternoon in her home. She was born September 12, 1927 in Celldomolk, Hungary, daughter of the late Anthony and Maria “Papp” Keri. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Earl McGee in 2014. Mrs. McGee was member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairmont, WV. She retired from Creative Label in Fairmont, WV, working in the shipping department. She earlier worked for Pitrolo’s Market and Westinghouse of Fairmont, WV. Mrs. McGee fled Hungary during the war to Germany and later to the United States where she lived with a family, which was hosted by the Catholic Church. She was so proud to be a naturalized citizen and proud to be an American. She loved the state of West Virginia. She enjoyed family activities, loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ed, and enjoyed cooking. Survivors include 2 sons and their spouses; Edward Anthony and Jeanie McGee of Fairmont, WV and Robert William and Trina McGee of Fairmont, WV, a daughter and her husband, Edith “Edie” and Charles Vanhorn of Grafton, WV, 4 grandchildren; Holly and Frank Summers of Graton, WV, Jessica ad Michael Varuolo of Lee New Hampshire, Hayley and Eric Wycoff of Grafton, WV, and Lorna and Sammy Ebstein of Sidney, Australia, a step-grandchild, Josh and Ashley Yow of Fairmont, WV, 4 great grandchildren; Savanna and Jefferey Wycoff of Grafton, WV, Josephine Varuolo of Lee, New Hampshire, and Isabella Ebstein of Sidney, Australia, a step great grandchild, Logan Yow of Fairmont, WV, and several nieces and nephews, She was preceded in death by a daughter, Caroline McGee, 2 sisters, Vera Szabo and Maria Keri, and a brother, Tony Keri. Family and friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV from 1pm until 4pm and 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, and 11am until 1pm on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday, 1-11-2017, at 1pm, with John Conaway officiating. Burial will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV.
