Obituary of Betty Anne Wheeler Buckner
Betty Anne Buckner of Fairmont, West Virginia, 96-year-old widow of Carl Buckner, went to her final reward on January 19, 2025. She was the mother of five children, two of whom (Deanna Lynn Buckner and Carl Buckner II) pre-deceased her. She is survived by her sons, Robert E. Buckner (Michell) and Micheal Buckner (Shari) and her daughter, Judy Buckner Larry (Joe). She also is survived by one brother, Jim, three sisters-in-law who are more like sisters (Irene, Christine and Roberta), and many loving nieces and nephews.
Betty loved her family more than anything else on earth. She and Carl welcomed eight grandchildren to their family, including Trae Buckner (Jamie), Robert E. Buckner II (Tammy), Ryan Lynn Buckner (Jeff), Craig Brown, David Buckner (Eliza), Christina Buckner Drainer, Christopher Lively (Denita) and Joshua Lively (Brittany). Her heart grew bigger with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Braiden Buckner, Jason Beck, Gracie Buckner, Claire Drainer, Annibelle Lively, Nya Buckner and Jasmine Buckner. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her heart with love, joy and pride.
Betty faithfully served God throughout her life. Her late husband Carl used the Book of Proverbs to describe his wife, “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31: 10, 26-28
He also wrote of her, “If all the wealth of the world were spent to buy a mother’s unconditional love, the price would fall short.”
Betty’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all rise up now and call her blessed, knowing that her unconditional love will never leave our hearts. And we pray that the wisdom and kindness she shared with us will guide our lives forever. Go rest high on that mountain, Mamaw, your work on earth is done.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at WVU Fairmont Medical Center for the kind and thoughtful care they gave her in her final days and hours.
