Obituary of Mary Lou Horter Middaugh
Mary Lou, eldest daughter of Louis Charles and Mary Alice Carson Horter was born in Wheeling, W. Va. March 7, 1929. She was educated in Wheeling schools and graduated from Triadelphia High School. She also graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Medical Technology. She married Egbert Seeley Middaugh September 27, 1951. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before Egbert passed away in July 13th 2010. Surviving are three children; Richard l. Middaugh (Linda) of Plano Texas, Laura E. Pritt (Ira) of Bridgeport, West Virginia, and James D. Middaugh (Kathleen) of Midland, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Stuart I. Middaugh, a sister Joan E. Spears, and brother Charles A. Horter. Surviving are eight grandchildren; Jennifer Watson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dr Lindsay Gibson of Temple, Texas, Dr Matthew Middaugh of Hudson, New York, Dr Erin Falkowski of Parkton, Maryland, Shelley Pritt of Bridgeport West Virginia, and Carri Kines of Phillipi, West Virginia, Daniel Pritt of Bridgeport, West Virginia, Christopher Pritt of Bridgeport, West Virginia and 14 great grandchildren plus numerous nephews and nieces.
Mary Lou retired from Roche Biomedical Laboratory in Bridgeport, West Virginia where she was employed as a Laboratory Supervisor. She was also active in Bridgeport Methodist Church, Bridgeport Womens Club, Bridgeport Garden Club, Chi Omega Alumna, Literacy Volunteers, Appalachian Lifetime Learners. She loved to travel and extending her education via Elderhostels. After retiring she visited over three quarters of the United States and many foreign countries.
Mary Lou had requested that in lieu of flowers donations to be made to either the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Dr, Bridgeport, WV 26330, or the Osiris Shriners Children’s Hospital, 91 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport. In accordance with Mary Lou’s wishes, cremation services will occur. Friends will be received at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 10 am until 11 am. The memorial service will be held in the church on Thursday at 11 am with Reverend Dr. Matthew Paugh officiating. A private service of committal will be held at a late date.
