Obituary of Marvin "Bill" Keith Boord, Sr.

Marvin “Bill” Keith Boord, Sr., 89, of Kingmont, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at his home in Kingmont. He was born on July 28, 1935 in Farmington, a son of the late Mark and Edith Woodring Boord. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2012, Sandra L. O’Connor Boord. Bill was a 1956 graduate of Farmington High School and proudly served as a mechanic in the United States Army. He worked as a coal miner with the Consolidated Coal Company, until retiring in 2001. Bill was a proud member of the UMWA. He enjoyed camping and fishing, especially at his camp in Elizabeth, Wirt County. Bill was also a NASCAR fan, as he attended and watched several races. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his fellow friends at Saturday breakfast at D.J’s Diner, and previously at The Whistle Stop. Bill is survived by daughters, Arlene Adkins and her husband Thomas of Huntsville, AL, and Penny Perkins and her husband Danny of Fairmont, his son, Brian Mark Boord and Amy Swisher of Kingmont, his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Boord of Kingmont, his six grandchildren, Ian Boord, Maria Boord, Andrew Adkins, Joshua Adkins, Ryan Perkins, and Danielle Perkins Parker, and six great grandchildren, Izaiah Parker, Wyatt Perkins, Zailey Parker, Maci Perkins, Gannon Perkins, and Ryan Perkins. He is also survived by his sisters, Joanne Layne, Shirley Conrad and her husband Bill, Lucille Broadwater, Jean Cosco, and Sally Boord, his sister-in-law, Dee Boord, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Marvin K. Boord, Jr., siblings, Susie Wright, Laura Cochran, Herbert Boord, and Mark Boord, brothers-in-law, Robert Layne, Donald Cosco, and Teddy Wright, and sister-in-law, Betty Boord. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends will be received in the funeral home on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 2pm until 4pm and from 6pm until 8pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 10am until 11am. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11am with Reverend Matt Holbert officiating. A service of committal will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, where full military honors will be rendered by the Marion County Veterans Council.
