Obituary of Wilma Louise Miller Layman

Wilma Louise Miller Layman, 96, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully in her son’s home on Bunner Ridge on Thursday, December 12, 2024. She was born on June 3, 1928, a daughter to the late Isaac Earl and Virgie Hamilton Miller. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Robert Layman, Sr. She was also preceded in death by, a daughter, Patricia Louise Layman Knight and husband, Raymond Knight and her siblings, John Miller, Clarice Miller Meriner, and Alice Miller Burke. She is survived by one son, William Robert Layman, Jr. (Deborah), grandchildren Amanda Masters (Shawn), Chris Layman, Jarrod Layman (Marisa), Steven Knight (Chris), Rachel Knight, Andrew Knight and 11 great-grandchildren. Wilma was employed at Westinghouse during the early 1950's when she met her future husband on a blind date. They married and the military sent him to Korea. After he returned, they settled in Montana Mines near Bill's family and raised their two children. She taught Sunday School at the local Montana Methodist Church for a number of years and was a member of the Montana Improvement Association. She loved to crochet and made many full and lap afghans for friends and family members. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends will be received in the funeral home on Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 4p.m. until 8p.m. and again on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 10a.m. until 11a.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 11a.m. with Reverend Dr. Michael Richards, and Pastor Danny Blake officiating.
