Obituary of William Robert Mott, Sr.

William Robert Mott Sr., 88, of Fairmont, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Grafton City Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Emporia, Kansas on April 16,1936, a son of the late Jesse Loren Mott and Florence Peschel Mott. William is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanore Pauline Vukovich Mott. In addition to his wife, William is survived by his four sons, William Robert Mott Jr. and his wife Patricia of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Gregory Mott and his wife Donna of Fairmont, Derek Mott and his wife Robin of Chester, VA, and Kendall Mott and his wife Christine of Fairmont; daughter, Janna Mott Yoder and her husband Robert of Morgantown; 14 grandchildren, Nickolas Mott, Rachael Mott, Jacen Mott, Emily Mott, Gabe Yoder, Gavin Yoder, Gabrielle Mott, Caleb Mott, Eli Mott, Jacob Mott, Trinity Mott, Kayla Mott, Konnor Mott, and Jon Garcia; three brothers, Paul, David, and Philip Mott. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by three brothers, Dwight, John (Jack), and Joe Mott, and his sisters, Agnes Jett, Mary Buetel, Rhea Patterson, and Rita Kohlmeyer. William graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs, CO and attended Regis College in Denver, CO. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier in the Korean War. He was a skilled craftsman throughout his life, mastering plumbing, carpentry, painting and building. He obtained membership into the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, and eventually joined Local #152 in Morgantown. He retired in 1994. William was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairmont, where he attended until he could no longer drive. He loved tinkering on old cars, his favorite being a 1980 International Harvester Scout. He collected model trains and enjoyed sharing his train track with everyone who visited, especially his grandchildren. He never missed a chance to tell someone one of his favorite jokes in an effort to get a laugh, even if you had heard the joke multiple times in the past. You could always find him in his garage, organizing tools and parts, repairing things and eating ice cream. Seeing his family grow was the highlight of his life, and he will be greatly missed by all of them. The family wishes to thank the staff at Grafton City Hospital. In accordance with his wishes, William’s body will be cremated. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. A vigil service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 6 p.m. with Sister Stella Cronauer, CSJ officiating. The catholic funeral liturgy will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 329 Maryland Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. with Father Kishore Varaparla as celebrant.
