Obituary of Billy D. Shaw
Billy D. Shaw, 75, of Fairmont, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 29, 2024 at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born in Grafton, WV on September 9, 1949, a son of the late William and Evelyn Grow Shaw. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, “Cookie” Davidson-Shaw.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his daughter Melisa S. Kennedy of Lady Lake, FL; two step-sons, Travis Davidson of Norfolk, VA and Trent Davidson of Worthington, WV, one granddaughter, Emily Humphrey of Orlando, FL, and two step-grandchildren, Dalton and Sarah Davidson of Norfolk, VA.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Duckworth of Grafton.
Bill was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church and regularly attended the Eldora and Boothsville United Methodist Churches. He was a proud 1967 graduate of Grafton High School, and then graduated from WVU in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance/economics. He also earned an associate’s degree in mortgage banking from Northwestern University Graduate School.
Bill’s first job after graduating was at Thomas & Hill, Inc. in Charleston, WV as the VP Head of Commercial Lending. He went on to work as the Director/Chairman at Financial Account Services in Pittsburgh, PA. He continued his banking career as the President CEO/COO at Mountain State Federal S&L (formerly First Federal) and on the Board of Directors at United Bank of Clarksburg, WV. In 1988/89 he served as the Senior VP of Hill Financial in Philadelphia, where he was the head of $1.7B in troubled commercial loans across 8 states. He finished his long career in banking and finance by forming Shaw Financial Services Corp. in which he owned for many years as well as served as the President of Grafton Homes Inc. until they closed.
Bill was a Mountaineer at heart, as he greatly loved watching and supporting the WVU Mountaineers in football and basketball every year. He loved to sing and perform music with his harmonica, spoons, and lyre. He also attended several local community events.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. In accordance with Bill’s wishes, cremation services will occur. Friends will be received on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Eldora United Methodist Church, 23 Sapps Run Road, Fairmont, WV 26554 from 10 am until 11 am. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the church on Saturday at 11 am with Reverend Dr. Michael C. Richards officiating. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
