Nancy Dotson

Obituary of Nancy Martin Dotson

Nancy Martin Dotson passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV, surrounded by her family. She had a quick but fierce battle with pancreatic cancer and greatly appreciated the exceptional care she received from doctors, nurses, and staff at UHC. Born May 3, 1957 in Charleston, WV, Nancy spent her youth living in Montgomery, WV with her wonderful parents, Al and Evelyn Martin, both deceased. She is survived by her husband Wade of nearly 40 years, daughters Lindsay Sandy (Chad), Meredith Burge (Mara), and sons Jason Dotson (Paula), J.R., and Joshua, as well as her grandchildren Gracie, Hunter, Savannah, Madyson, Carter, Kate, Ethan, Jackson, Jase, Elijah, and Abigail. Nancy always said she had a charmed life from the time she was born into a loving family in the ideal town, Montgomery, where she played outside from dawn to dusk. She graduated from Montgomery High School where she was a proud Greyhound cheerleader and an honor student. She went on to graduate from Virginia Tech and moved to Bridgeport in 1979. Throughout her years in Montgomery, Nancy served as organist, pianist, and choir director for the children and adult choirs at Montgomery Baptist Church. After moving to Bridgeport she became a long term member of Bridgeport United Methodist church where she served as Sunday School and Bible School teacher when her children were growing up. In 1992 she began her career in the financial services industry and retired from Stifel in 2024 after 32 years of serving her clients whom she considered to be family. She loved getting to know the generations of families that she served. She loved having plans whether it was entertaining friends and family at home, redecorating a room, or buying a plane ticket. Her calendar was always overflowing and she liked it that way. Nancy was a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She leaves behind her “sister friends,” Elsa, Hermine, Claudia, Toni and Genny, as well as Lester and Cindy Miller who always remained an important part of her life. Her grace, wit, creativity, and generosity touched many. She always had a ready smile, a listening ear, and a sense of humor that put it all in perspective. She was devoted to her children and adored her grandchildren. Her infectious smile and charm will be missed. “I am very fortunate that God allowed me to live this long and to have had such a beautiful life. It has been a joy.” In lieu of flowers, Nancy requests donations be made to Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport. In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, cremation services will occur. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11am in the Bridgeport United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Matthew Paugh officiating.
