Obituary of Sarah Kay Goolie

Sarah Goolie, of White Hall (Marion County, WV) passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, surrounded by her family, at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, WV following an acute illness. She was born on April 11, 1941 in Grafton, to the late William Walter (Buddy) and Margaret June Phelps Moyer. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband George Gene Goolie, Jr. in 1969. Affectionally known to her family and friends as “Sarah”, the name her father gave her, but also known as “Nan”, which was the name her nephews and nieces gave her, Sarah is survived by her loving son George Gene Goolie, III and his wife Jessica of Fairmont, WV and their children, her grandsons Geremy and Garrett who reside at home and whom she loved dearly; her sister Toni Nesselrotte and her husband William E. (Bill) of White Hall, WV; sister-in-law Judy Moyer Sloan and husband Matt of Worthington, WV and special nephews and nieces Doug Moyer and wife Leah of Worthington, WV; Tammy Harbert and husband Brad of Monongah, WV; Lynna Gaskin and husband Rock of Bethesda, MD; and Tyler Nesselrotte and wife Alexandra of the Woodlands, TX; as well as great nieces and nephews and many stray cats throughout the years, all whom she loved greatly. Sarah graduated from Monongah High School in 1960, after which she worked at Westinghouse until she married her late husband and moved to Salem, OH. Upon his passing, Sarah returned to West Virginia where she graduated from the Clarksburg Beauty Academy and worked as a hairdresser. Later, she became a Certified Nanny, taking care of her nephew throughout his childhood and later worked in a pre-school program. In her earlier years, Sarah loved baking delicious treats, especially M&M cookies, for her grandsons as well as engaging in various crafts and projects. She and her sister loved shopping together. Sarah was a sweet, gentle and considerate person and will be sorely missed by her loving family. The family is greatly pleased with and wishes to acknowledge the very kind and exceptional care Sarah received in the ICU at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown. Anyone wishing to remember Sarah may do so by making a memorial contribution to the Disability Action Center in Fairmont, WV or to the Marion County Humane Society. There will be no public viewing.
