Obituary of Deloris "Dee" J. Polis

Deloris “Dee” J. Polis, 87, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital in Fairmont. She was born on September 28, 1937 in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Nick and Marjorie “Posey” Spevock. Dee is survived by her loving husband, of 65 years, Anthony “Al” Polis. Dee was a proud 1955 graduate of East Fairmont High School and 1960 graduate of West Virginia University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education. She was a Christian by faith, and was known to quote her favorite scriptures from the Bible. Dee had a passion for studying history, especially Egyptian and Civil War history. In her spare time, Dee was a talented seamstress, as she handcrafted most of her clothing in her early years. She was also an excellent cook that would make a chef envious and an avid reader of all things. Dee had a caring and generous personality, she was a loving wife and friend to all. In addition to her husband, Dee is survived by her brother Nicholas “Nick” E. Spevock, her nieces and nephews, Nick Spevock, Jr., John Spevock, Sharon Spevock, Dr. Robert Flint and his wife Melissa, and Tracy and her husband Chris Haught, all of Fairmont, her great nieces and nephews, including Lexi Tucker, Lane Flint, and Morgan Haught, as well as several cousins, including Debbi Turner of St. Mary, FL. In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Deloris Spevock. The family would like to give a special thank you to their neighbors Mike, Laura and Christopher Shreves for their invaluable assistance and caring of Dee and Al. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends will be received on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 10 am until 1 pm. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 1 pm with Pastor Skip Vincent. A service of committal will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
